We chose the Maxi-Cosi Pebble car seat due to its excellent safety rating and it’s a WHICH Best Buy.
The FamilyFix car seat base allows you to use your cars ISOFIX fittings to securely attach the car seat to the car. It’s quite simple to fix, and once you get the hang of it you can clip the seat in and out in no time at all. When you attach the car seat into the base, it has two green lights and a nice reassuring beep noise to let you know that its clipped in correctly.
TOP TIP – as easy as it is, practice putting the seat in the car several times before you take your baby home!
The FamilyFix base has the advantage of also working with the Maxi-Cosi Pearl car seat, which you’ll need once your baby is over 12 months old (or 13kg in weight).
If you don’t get the base, you can still use the car seat and secure it with the seat belt. However, the ISOFIX fastening does feel much more secure, so if your car has it available, and you can live with the base taking up space, I’d definitely recommend getting the base.
Since we bought the car seat and base, Maxi-Cosi have released the 2way Pearl. This is a little annoying as the old Pearl car seat (which is the next seat up from the Pebble that fits this base) is only forwards facing. If you don’t mind your little one being forwards facing from ~9 months onwards, then this is still a good buy. But, if we’d have had the option, we would now go with the 2way Pearl as rear facing seems like a safer option.
Still, the base and car seat are both a good buy. They’ve held up well and show little signs of wear and tear.
